New Baden man charged with soliciting sex from undercover agent posing as child

A 55-year-old New Baden man discussed acts of sexual conduct online with an undercover agent posing as 14-year-old girl for four months, according to charges filed Friday.

Rodney Roth, 55, was "soliciting an online account of a fictitious 14-year-old female for a sexual relationship," said St. Clair County Sheriff's Department Capt. Bruce Fleshren. An agent with the Air Force Office of Special Investigations was on the other side of the conversations with Roth, which spanned from July 2017 to October 2017.

Charging documents did not specify the platform Roth and the OSI agent were speaking on, and Fleshren declined to say.

Roth was charged Friday with grooming and indecent solicitation of a child over the internet. He was arrested Feb. 14 and posted bond to be released from the St. Clair County Jail. He has no prior criminal history in St. Clair County.
