Cahokia man charged with six felonies in O’Fallon carjacking case

A Cahokia man faces six felony charges in connection with an armed robbery and car theft in O’Fallon.

Dartayous L. White, 19, was charged in St. Clair County on Tuesday, according to court documents. The charges against him include armed robbery with a firearm, unlawful possession of a stolen vehicle, aggravated possession of stolen firearms, burglary and two counts of aggravated fleeing.

According to a press release from O’Fallon police, White was attempting to steal a car in the 100th block of Liberty Crossing on Aug. 30 when someone interrupted him. The victim told police White then pointed his gun at him before getting in the car and driving off. The victim was able to get a description of White and the vehicle to police shortly after.

Police located the car in O’Fallon and, when White fled in it with two juvenile suspects, pursued it on Interstate 64. When White crashed the car at the intersection of Highway 111 and Highway 203 in Pontoon Beach, police were able to apprehend him.

White is being held at the St. Clair County jail on $150,000 bond. Police said an investigation is still ongoing regarding the other two suspects.
