A 37-year-old East St. Louis man was fatally shot early Sunday morning after he got into an altercation with another man.
The victim, Jerray Jackson, and another man were at a home in the 1800 block of N. 43rd Street. Police Chief Michael Floore said East St. Louis police were dispatched to a residence at 1:28 a.m. to investigate a “shots-fired” call.
Illinois State Police Captain Jim Morrisey confirmed that ISP is assisting East St. Louis police in their sixth homicide investigation of the year.

“After the shooting, the shooter left the area and has not been located at this time,” Morrisey said.
Floore said when the officers arrived on scene, “they found a black male’s body laying on the ground.”
He appeared to be unresponsive and was rushed to a St. Louis-area hospital where he later died of his injuries, Floore said.
Police have identified a person of interest who they are going to question in connection with the shooting.
The identity of the man Jackson got into the argument with has not been released by police. Floore said it is early in the investigation and there is no further information to be released at this time.
