An East St. Louis man was found guilty Friday of first-degree murder.
Eric M. Hill, 30, was found guilty of the shooting death of Marcus Harris, who was found shot in the 1600 block of 50th Street in Washington Park in the early morning hours of July 13, 2014. Harris later died, but not before he named Hill as his killer, police said.
Later that day, police arrested Hill for the murder.
A St. Clair County jury deliberated for three hours before convicting Hill.
“Marcus Harris solved this crime from beyond the grave,” said Assistant State’s Attorney Erin Conner, one of the prosecutors in the case.
Assistant State’s Attorney Dan Lewis, in his closing argument, told jurors: “As he lay dying from multiple gunshots, Marcus started the journey to justice, and now you can finish it.”

Hill faces from 45 years to life in prison when St. Clair County Circuit Judge Bob Haida sentences him.
State’s Attorney Brendan Kelly thanked Illinois State Police and Washington Park Police for their investigation, and Judge Robert Haida and the jury for a fair trial.
