A local political group is offering a $500 college scholarship to one conservative student from the metro-east.

Members of the Metro East Pachyderm Club will choose a student who displays former President Ronald Reagan’s philosophy and principles, according to a news release.

High school seniors from St. Clair and Madison counties can apply by submitting an essay on activism before the May 15 deadline. The top three candidates will be interviewed by a selection committee.

For more information, visit metroeastpachy.org/2017-scholarship-program. The application is also available online.

Through the scholarship program, the Metro East Pachyderm Club hopes to encourage young adults to become active in the Republican Party, the release states.
