Scholarship available for high school senior’s college or career

Because not every high school senior wants to attend a four-year college, a local optometrist is offering a $1,500 scholarship that can also be used toward his or her career.

The “Build Your Dream” scholarship from Dr. Dirk Massie of Performance Eyecare will be given to a student from the metro-east or St. Louis to help pay for higher education, including a trade school, or a start-up business, for example.

Students interested in the scholarship should submit an essay describing their plans for life after high school and explaining how the scholarship would help them reach their goals.

“You don’t have to have a high GPA or be ranked top of your class to earn this scholarship,” Massie stated in a news release. “We simply want to know what you’re passionate about and how the scholarship money will assist in building your dream.”

Essays can be dropped off at any Performance Eyecare location or turned in to a class adviser, according to the news release. The deadline is May 15.

Performance Eyecare has offices in Alton, Swansea and Creve Coeur, Missouri. Scholarship applications are available online at performanceeyecare.com/scholarship.
