A local charter high school will get new textbooks and computers because of a donation of almost $9,000.

Carrollton Bank recently donated $8,700 for books on consumer education and personal finance and 25 laptops, according to Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. The books and laptops will be used at SIUE’s East St. Louis Center.

The bank also donated $1,000 to help pay for a field trip for about 55 students.

Carrollton Bank CEO Tom Hough and Suzanne Hough, who manages the bank’s community outreach efforts, presented a check to SIUE Chancellor Randy Pembrook and Rachel Stack, a vice chancellor and CEO of the SIUE Foundation.

Suzanne Hough said Carrollton Bank is working with the charter high school because it saw a need for a personal finance curriculum.
