Eighth-grader Marie Prindiville, of Immaculate Conception School in Columbia, recently set a new state track record in a 800-meter race.
Marie finished first in the 800-meter and 1600-meter races at the Southern Illinois Junior High School Athletic Association’s State Track and Field Championships on May 13.
She broke the 2012 record in the Class S girls 800-meter race with a time of 2:29.41, according to the SIJHSAA website. Her time in the 1600-meter race was 5:36.18, narrowly missing the state record of 5:36.13 set in 2013.
Marie is the daughter of Tom and Penny Prindiville, of Columbia.
