Parents who might not otherwise be able to buy new clothes or school supplies for their children are invited to an upcoming giveaway.
The Salvation Army Women’s Auxiliary is offering free clothing, books and school supplies to help children between the ages of 4 and 12 get ready for the school year.
The event will take place from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Aug. 5 at the Belleville Salvation Army Center, 20 Glory Place. In order to participate, families must live in St. Clair County, east of Illinois 157.
Parents need to register their children beforehand; they can do so between 9 a.m. and 12 p.m. or between 1 and 4 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday at the Belleville Salvation Army Center. On Friday, registration is open from 1-7 p.m.
The following information is required at registration:
▪ Parent’s ID
▪ Social security cards for all of the adults in the household
▪ Birth certificates/medical cards for everyone in the household
▪ Proof of residency, like a utility bill from the last 30 days or a lease agreement
▪ Proof of income, like pay stubs or a social services printout
During the Aug. 5 event, children will choose an outfit from the new clothing purchased by the Salvation Army Women’s Auxiliary. They will also take home socks and a gift certificate to purchase a new pair of shoes.
