A teacher’s fundraiser for a student who had cancer netted nearly $400 toward medical bills.

Wolf Branch Middle School fifth-grade teacher Summer Elbe sold T-shirts to raise money for 11-year-old Jon Cook and his family. Summer was one of Jon’s teachers when he was diagnosed with leukemia in January.

The T-shirts feature the phrases “Wolf Branch Fights with Jon” and “Fight like a Jedi Jon,” referencing his favorite film series “Star Wars.” The community purchased 133 shirts, and a portion of the sales — $399 — will be donated to the Cook family, according to Summer.

Last week, the Cooks received news that a biopsy from Jon showed no signs of cancer because of a successful bone marrow transplant. His dad, Josh Cook, donated the marrow.
