Local organization awards $30K in scholarships. Here’s how to apply next year.

This year, the Belleville Elks Lodge 481 gave out $30,100 in college scholarships to 22 local students.

Students who are interested in applying for next year’s scholarships will find the application and information online at elks.org starting Sept. 1. The deadline to apply will be Nov. 27.

This year’s top local Elks National Foundation Most Valuable Student scholarships went to Ivy Truong and Caitlyn Peters, who are both graduates of Belleville East High School. Ivy will attend Princeton University, and Caitlyn will attend the University of Illinois.

Freeburg High School graduate Drew Wilkerson will use the Elks National Foundation Legacy scholarship to attend Washington University.

Thirteen more students who plan to major in physical therapy or occupational therapy received scholarships ranging from $500 to $2,700. The applications for next year’s scholarships for physical therapy and occupational therapy majors will be available in December.

Among the local students who earned awards this year were:

▪  Kaitlynn Borick, of Belleville, who will attend Saint Louis University

▪  Caitlin and Kristen Busch, of Freeburg, who will attend Bradley University

▪  Natalie Gass, of Belleville, who will attend Saint Louis University

▪  Amanda Kaltwasser, of Belleville, who will attend Maryville University

▪  Hollie Kreher, of Belleville, who will attend Arkansas State

▪  Sarah Kuester, of Freeburg, who will attend University of Evansville

▪  Hana Michael, of Collinsville, who will attend Maryville University

▪  Alyssa Pellmann, of Millstadt, who will attend Maryville University

▪  Megan Seibel, of Belleville, who will attend Maryville University

▪  Veronica Steibel, of Prairie du Rocher, who will attend Maryville University

▪  Kelsey Weatherford, of Columbia, who will attend St. Ambrose University

Another six students from the metro-east won Paul L. Kunz Memorial scholarships, including:

▪  Jordan Drake, of New Athens, who will attend University of Louisville

▪  Alexis Miller, of Belleville, who will attend Texas A&M University

▪  Lydia Taylor, of Belleville, who will attend University of Denver

▪  Kameron Wallace, of Belleville, who will attend Saint Louis University

▪  Neil Wegazyn, of Belleville, who will attend University of Illinois

▪  Constantine Zamfir, Belleville, who will attend University of Illinois
