Citing use of profane language, verbal abuse toward candidates and support for Democratic precinct committeemen, the St. Clair County Republican Central Committee has censured local radio host and candidate for state representative Bob Romanik.

“Bob Romanik has demonstrated that he is only interested in a self-serving agenda and is not interested in improving our county,” said Doug Jameson, chairman of the St. Clair County Republican Central Committee. “He is using the electoral process to execute his own personal vendetta for past legal troubles.”

Romanik brushed it off, saying only the voters can censure him.

“These few idiots, who calls themselves the St. Clair County Republican leaders, leaders of a very weak, very small, failed organization, a total disgrace to all the proud and productive true Republicans in St. Clair County, can’t censure me because these few idiots don’t have the right, nor the power,” Romanik said in a handwritten statement. “Only my constituents of the 114th Legislative District of Illinois can censure me by not voting for me.”

By issuing the censure, the Republican Party of St. Clair County is breaking ties to Romanik, who is running as a Republican in the 114th Illinois House district. Romanik also is a member of the St. Clair County Freedom Coalition.

Romanik said the only reason he is running as a Republican is because “no one else would step up to the plate to fight this culture of corruption.” He said he has fought against local Democrats for 20 years.

In its censure, the GOP said Romanik uses profane language both on and off the air, verbally assaulted Ronald Duebbert, who is a Republican candidate for judge, made false statements about Jameson, and intimidated politically involved people with whom he disagrees, with threats of character assassination.

“His half-truthful, vulgar and destructive campaign of terror works to destroy anyone who does not agree with him,” Jameson said.

As part of the censure, the Republican committee:

▪  Will not support nor endorse Romanik’s election.

▪  Romanik and his representatives will be denied attendance to any official meeting or event conducted by the St. Clair County Republican Central Committee.

▪  Romanik’s name will not appear on any official county GOP list of Republican candidates.

▪  The county GOP will make no financial contributions to Romanik’s campaign nor accept contributions from Romanik.

Romanik said statements he made in regard to Jameson are backed up by court records, and he doesn’t need the local committee’s money.

“I don’t want, nor welcome the support of the Republican Central Committee as long as Doug Jameson has anything to do with it,” Romanik said.
