Fake it until you make it to Springfield
LaToya Greenwood must be in training to become a state lawmaker. She’s practicing at the city level being absent when important votes take place, failing to pass a budget and letting vendors go unpaid.
Can’t wait for the November election to see if Ms. Moreofthesame or the Grim Stripper of Radio replaces state Rep. Eddie Lee Jackson in the 114th Illinois House District.
Greenwood and fellow East St. Louis City Councilman Roy Mosley for months failed to show up for special council meetings, apparently as a tactic to delay a vote on an amended city budget. A suspicious person would think Mosley has been blocking the budget because he wants his son back on the city payroll as Public Works director.
The budget amendment is needed to pay vendors and hire a code enforcement officer. Four of the five council members must be in attendance to vote on a budget and city leaders again on Thursday scheduled a meeting to try to get it passed.
When asked in advance whether she planned to attend the Thursday meeting, Greenwood said: “It depends on my availability.”
Well she must have found the time in her busy schedule. She and Mosley showed up and voted against the amended budget.
They did approve purchasing an emergency back-up generator. City Manager Courtney Logan said the generator is a necessity because if the power fails, city computers will lose stored data and the link to fire and police vehicles will break.
At least the pair had the courage to finally show up and take a stand, although without the amended budget the contractors will not be paid and there will be no code enforcement officer hired. Mayor Emeka Jackson-Hicks doesn’t need to make a case for a code enforcement officer, because anyone who drives through the city can see the obvious need.
As far as the unpaid contractors, well it could be worse: They could have performed work for the State of Illinois.
