Reading Washington Post opinion writer Michael Gerson's column (”This show can't go on”) in the News Democrat Saturday I was shocked, but not surprised, by the level of hypocrisy he displayed. Gerson uses the column to excoriate Rush Linbaugh, Fox News, and several other conservative pundits as shills for Trump.
I guess Gerson considers the very liberal media outlets and their standard bearers to be level-headed gatekeepers of information. Awhile back, after yet another Democrat was endorsed for president by the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, I tried to find the last Republican they endorsed. I couldn't find one. Granted I only went back 100 years or so, but not one. Not Reagan in 1984 when he won 49 of the 50 states, not Eisenhower either time, none. I'm sure their editorial board looked deeply into the policies and character of the candidates and every time picked the Democrat.
I guess Gerson overlooked the pipeline between liberal media outlets and Democrat officeholders that gave former Clinton staffer George Stephanopoulos his position at ABC News and former Tip O'Neil chief of staff Chris Mathews his position at MSNBC as host of “Hardball.”
Michael Gerson lives in a very fragile glass house. He should be more careful where he throws those rocks.
