Letters to the Editor

To Bill Malec, O’Fallon: I am also disappointed by your articles. You used all of the phrases for 49ers’ QB Colin Kaepernick’s reason for not standing for the playing of the National Anthem. Yet, you do not understand Kaepernick’s reason for not standing.

Let me tell you, the flag is full of lies. When it means equal rights, justice, freedom for all, that’s a lie. It doesn’t just represent military men and women, of whom many blacks fought and died for freedom they didn’t have. You either missed the point that your mother taught you, “don’t talk with your mouth full,” or you haven’t learned much about the history of America.

To David Vail, O’Fallon: Kaepernick just “got off his ass to do something.” He doesn’t like the lies the flag stands for, so he has started a conversation, a movement. As long as he pretends everything was alright, we didn’t hear these voices, all the fires and burning of T-shirts, the loss of promotion. A lot of people are happy enjoying freedom, privileges, that others do not have. You guys need to read more history of America.
