Each time I read a piece about the Clinton County killing of young Mr. Arter, I wonder what’s not being said. It’s as if the information is in code. A 17-year-old man capable of causing the death of a contemporary is held in “detention.” The perpetrator’s mom says he was in alternative education, but not for behavioral reasons. Police had been called to his house because his mom “didn’t know what to do.” The defense attorney petitions for his release, claiming he is not a danger to others. He was a few days ago. Are they afraid he might assault someone else while in detention? What’s really going on here?
