In a letter printed January 22, I said that I had been unhappy with Leonard Pitts Jr.’s columns since about 2002. Today (April 26), I will have to change my mind. After reading the letters on the editorial page I looked at the heading on Mr. Pitts’ column (“Let Ann Coulter speak”) on the next page.
In that column he castigated both the University of California Berkeley for trying to silence Ann Coulter and Howard Dean for cheering UCB on. This surprised me since I more or less thought that Pitts was a charter member of the liberal main stream media that seems to want to gag anyone to the right of it.
In a surprise today, Elizabeth Warren apparently agreed with Pitts by saying in effect: “Let her speak, if you don’t agree with her, don’t go.”
Voltaire said a few centuries ago: “I may not agree with what you have to say, but I will defend to the death, your right to say it.”
