Letters to the Editor

Thank you, Maria

On Wednesday, April 19, several friends and I were enjoying good company and a fine breakfast in New Baden. Suddenly one of our friends could not lift his fork to his mouth and became very weak. A young lady sitting at the table next to us came over and began asking him to squeeze her hand and he was unable to do that. She told us to immediately call 911, which we did, and he was taken to St. Elizabeth’s Hospital. He was diagnosed with a severe stroke and internal bleeding. Because of her actions and the rapid response of the EMT team from New Baden, he is still alive, although he is in critical condition. Later I found out the young lady is an RN at St. Elizabeth’s and does not desire any recognition. However, on behalf of my breakfast buddies we would like to say “Thank You, Maria.”
