Happy hour will come again
Take a break from all the letter writers who cite poorly sourced “facts.” Everyone should un-mute their TV and listen carefully to the frequently aired Steak ‘n Shake commercial on the 1934 origin of “happy hour”: the smiling contest. “It was the happiest hour of our lives.”
This is the cleverest, funniest commercial ever to appear on television. What happened after the smiling contest? “What do you think? We got depressed again. It was the Great Depression.”
This commercial will make you smile. After all, we are not in a depression. We are in a temporary political cycle. Happy hour will come again.
