I would like to reinforce the stance taken in the letter last Saturday by Julie Kemper. Her stance was that she found it particularly offensive that a student group at the University of California, Irvine, voted to ban the American flag from its lobby. I would like to provide supplemental information concerning California and what has gone on in California universities.
California was the state with the most hippies. During the Vietnam War, California was referred to as the newest province of North Vietnam with the capital at Berkeley and politburo at UCLA.
I agree that what Kemper brought out is offensive; I also think it is utterly repulsive. But why should anyone be surprised?
