I read that Illinois House Speaker Michael Madigan wants to increase funding of state and local crime labs by $6 million. While I agree with the stated reason, that “the increased funding is needed to help process evidence in sexual assault cases,” I have a question:
With the state budget being way out of balance lo these many years, the current governor attempting to find ways to bring it back into balance, the state owning billions of dollars on loans, many, many billions of dollars to the retirement funds and quite a few dollars to various businesses, the income tax rate reduced as of last January 1, where is he going to find even the paltry $6 million for this particular fund?
