I would like to know why Belleville allows Tavern On Main to place barricades on the crosswalks and wheelchair ramps on the corner of East Main and North Church streets. These are public access and are not supposed to be blocked off for any reason. Last weekend they had both north and south and east and west crosswalks blocked off with barricades for a band or whatever reason.
I realize that downtown businesses are trying to make downtown a place to be, but it is getting beyond control when businesses can dictate who can walk on public sidewalks and then place tables and chairs on public sidewalks with signs that say reserved for customers only. Do these businesses realize that our tax dollars paid for all of these sidewalks and nice areas uptown? No one should have to walk around a barricade to visit downtown Belleville.
