Is embellishment widespread?

Is it just me, or has anyone else noticed the Belleville News-Democrat’s accompanying comments of photographs do not always correctly describe their picture? There were two cases at the beginning of the week in the Sports section alone.

On May 4 the caption under photograph of Dale Earnhardt Jr. hugging a team crew member stated he was hugging Jimmie Johnson. Jimmie Johnson was not in that picture. The crew member in the embrace was wearing a Nationwide uniform; Johnson wore a Lowe’s uniform on race day. And on May 6, the caption under photograph of Jordan Corby and Mackenzie Marshall stated Jordan was being congratulated as she scored. This was not an accurate description since both young ladies were holding bats.

If photographs are embellished, are articles?
