After the ball was over

I think it was a nice gesture to honor our armed forces who voluntarily serve and defend America. Quite a few pictures in a recent full-page ad were of politicians and just a couple of pictures were of those people whom the ball honored.

It was the usual splash of overpaid, overspending, under-performing politicians but hardly a ripple in the pond for those who are in the armed forces. Makes you swell with pride to see those politicians volunteer for photos and accepting awards.

I do remember that in some small towns and villages, when they saw a military person come into their village or business, they welcomed him with open arms. Some military people were even invited for dinner or the holidays. But that was long ago and far away.
