Focus on needs, not wants

What we want and what we actually need in this life has always been the big tug of war in human existence. Knowing the difference can make life much simpler.

The Zac Brown Band’s song “Homegrown” illustrates this problem. One of their lyrics, “It’s the weight that you carry from the things you think you want,” is the problem that we all face. We weigh ourselves down daily worrying about what we want, but don’t have money, power, possessions, etc.

The solution is the next lyric, “I got everything I need and nothing that I don’t.”

Figuring out the difference between our needs and wants is a journey that hopefully has an ending one day. It ends with accepting all the blessings that you have been given.

Thank you to the Zac Brown Band for giving us food for thought.
