Now that the ceremonies and celebrations are over time for the new mayor of East St. Louis, it is time to get down to work.
Where are we on Port ESL that had a groundbreaking more than a year ago, where are we on a citywide comprehensive plan, where are we on redeveloping our riverfront and downtown areas, where are we on developing the old Broadview Hotel (SIU-ESL)? Where are we financially, and finally, where are we on public safety improvements?
These are tough questions but they must be addressed so that the image of the city begins to be positive and viable again.
I am willing to work with the new administration as long as transparency is the rule, not the exception.
This community has potential, but without leadership that will make the tough and sometimes politically unpopular decisions, it will not prosper.
I stand ready to assist and support good, honest government that will truly listen to the people for once.
