A better solution
We all have viewpoints and opinions, this makes for an interesting world. How boring life would be if we were all alike. Disagreement and anger needs to be handled in a different way than vandalism. We are taught this as children. Let’s find a better solution.
There have been a few articles last week about how mistreated these prisoners are, because they have to spend time in solitary confinement in a 5-by-8 foot box. What about the people that they put in a box 3-by-6 in a 6-foot hole in the ground? You got it a lot better than they got it. You put them there. Quit crying. It’s time to quit pandering to these guys, and give them the worst living conditions possible, that’s what they deserve.
I’m a strong believer in unions myself for private companies, not government. I happened to be at Eckert’s a few weeks ago during Gov. Rauner’s visit when the union protesters were leaving. The number of Japanese and foreign cars that they were driving was appalling. If they are for American jobs, why are they buying foreign-made cars? That’s being a hypocrite and has put the industry down the tubes in . They may be made in America, but the are sent to Japan.
A decision to make
Each priest or minister will have to make the decision, will they obey God or will they obey man?
One of Dr. Martin Luther King’s favorite sayings was, “look up”. And that means we look up to God, not the Supreme Court.
I want to know why there is a mass exodus of employees quitting in Circuit Clerk Kahalah A. Clay’s office and she is replacing them with inexperienced people and giving them more money. It’s my understanding she never comes to work and she treats her employees so bad they are quitting. Allegedly there have been over 30 people that have left her department since she has taken office, why?
Legality is not the same thing as morality. There is a big difference.
Why no fireworks
With the Belleville swimming pool closed and no fireworks in Belleville, people have to travel to other towns to watch fireworks, if they want to see them. What’s wrong with having fireworks down at the fairgrounds after the races on Friday?
Lost sales taxes
Why doesn’t Illinois sell fireworks? Everybody drives to Missouri to get all their fireworks. Illinois is losing so much money in sales taxes. I’m sure they will make up for the sales tax loss by raising our property taxes.
The editorial June 28 is dead-on about the Democrats. How can Mike Madigan and John Cullerton hold their heads up walking down the street? They are embarrassing. They want to sit here and do the same thing they’ve been doing, and have us on the edge of bankruptcy. I’d like to point out, everything I’ve seen about accountability and reform, I’ve never seen a Democrat do that in my life. It’s always Republicans who have to come up with reform. You need to get rid of these people and you need to get rid of them the very next election. If people in office now automatically vote against them, the only way to save this country is term limits, and get these politicians to release the grip they have on this state.
Section 8 housing
I want to call about Section 8 and all the houses that are rented that are dilapidated old houses that need to be torn down. But the city lets them rent to the poor, doesn’t say anything about them, but that’s OK. You think only black people are on Section 8? Whites are first, hispanics second, blacks third. I went to Wisconsin and they had beautiful apartments for Section 8. Why can’t St. Clair County do the same?
I think what the U.S. Supreme Court did in reference to Obama Care and gay marriage is a total disgrace. The one I’m blaming is John Roberts, whom George W. Bush appointed as the supreme leader of Supreme Court. It’s a disgrace, what happened to this country, and with Obama being in here, because of a bunch of socialists, is pathetic. Nine lawyers in black robes decide what the rest of the country does. What a piece of garbage.
If there is a food shortage in this world, it’s not due to global warming, it’s due to a certain country using much of the food they grow to make gasoline.
Trump is right
Mr. Donald Trump is spot-on about the illegals coming into our country. And I don’t comprehend why does the U.S. keep sending money to Mexico? I was going to vote for Marco Rubio until Trump made up his mind and threw his hat in the ring. Mr. Trump speaks volumes to me. Someone needs to not be afraid to speak out. I know there is a lot incompetency, too.
Over the past few weeks there has been an uproar over the Confederate flag for what it stands for. We all know what the Confederate flag was used for and the one they are showing is not even the Confederate flag they are complaining about. To those people who are wanting all the symbols of the Confederacy removed because of what they mean, or supposedly mean, here is my question to you. Would you want all monuments removed that have anything to do with slavery? How about the death of millions of people. If your answer is yes, the one monument I’ve been talking about with slavery is Mount Rushmore. One of those presidents had hundreds of slaves, another one didn’t think the blacks should have equal rights. The American flag was flying over our country when we killed millions of native American Indians. So which flag is more offensive?
Show some respect
I am from the South, and proud to be Southern. If people don’t like the flag, don’t look at it. Let’s show some respect for the Confederate soldiers, its part of history.
On Obama’s watch
Here’s what we’ve seen since President Obama has been in office: legalizing pot, Supreme Court ruling for gay marriage, paying for everything for illegal aliens, Walmart baking an ISIS flag cake, but refusing to bake one for the Confederate flag. Lighting up our White House in rainbow colors in total disrespect for the majority of people in this country. Obama ignoring every rule of law. Disrespect for our country and the world. Obama said he would transform America and he has. Even if he makes all Americans throw all their money in a pot and divide it equally, in a year or two we would still have the haves and have nots.
I received Mayor Mark Eckert’s letter today. The mayor wants people to shop Belleville. I won’t go into the stores that have asked me to hand over my backpack. They don’t ask for large purses from people. Stop asking for my backpack, I am not a thief. Unless you catch me in the act, don’t accuse me.
Term limits needed
In the editorial page July 1, every letter complained about the government, Supreme Court, what this government is doing to this country, what the Obama administration has done to it. The letters go on and on in great detail about how Democrats and Obama and the rest of these radical people in Washington, D.C., have screwed this country and got all of us on the verge of bankruptcy. There’s only one way to save this country. Term limits. You’ve got to limit these people and limit their power they are taking your country from you. Vote them out, and vote for term limits.
If the Ten Commandments are to be removed from public display on government property, that is separation of church and state. Then we need to make sure the punishment for breaking the laws against murder and robbery are no longer enforced. These are based on two commandments. You can’t bring punishment based on religious belief.
Spirit of 1776
The American Revolution was fought on the premise of taxation without representation and, among other things, imposing upon freedoms of men. We seem to be heading right back to that same situation. The only difference is that the British were doing it in 1776, and here the liberal Democrats are doing it in St. Clair County. It’s time maybe to get out in the streets and have a revolution — but first let’s get them out of office.
On the billboard sign about Mark Kern, I think who put it there should give recognition to the St. Clair County Board members that are guilty on their campaign promises, saying they are going to reduce our taxes and they don’t do it. They get us free trash pick-up, but they don’t get our taxes reduced. I don’t think some of these people who say that attempt to do it. It’s just something they use at election time. Reducing taxes is much more important than free trash pick-up in St. Clair County.
Gays and marriage
I do not dislike them the slightest, nor do I discriminate against homosexuals. I sympathize with them because of their abnormality. I see nothing wrong with civil unions, however; blessed matrimony is a sacred bond between a man and a woman in order to have a stable home for propagating the human race. Two men or two women cannot reproduce. The Supreme Court justices have overstepped their bounds, this is rapidly becoming a secular socialist country. We cannot get rid of Obama soon enough.
A winning solution
I read the opinion page on Wednesday, “We got a deal for you.” I agree with the opinion. Give MidAmerica St. Louis Airport to the Department of Defense. It’s about time U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin manned up. Win-win- win! Kudos, well said.
Help from Durbin
Regarding Sen. Dick Durbi’s recent visit to talk to the people at Scott Air Force Base to express his desire for the NGA to relocate here really does no good. Of course we want the operation here. Sen. Durbin needs to put together an independent government cost analysis to show that it makes good business sense to move the NGA to Scott Air Force Base because, of course it does. And, he needs to present those reports to the NGA if he really wants to help the cause.
Navajo code talkers
I’m calling about the recent article in the paper about the Navajo code talkers who helped bring about the end of World War II. It was mentioned that they were given the Congressional Medal of Honor in Montana. Their names were not mentioned. I am highly offended at that. They have been treated like underlings for far too long. I have a little bit of Cherokee blood, but that’s not what I am calling about. I would like to know who put the article in the paper without naming the people and whether something is being done for them in Washington, D.C.
Why is the road outside of Grizzlies Stadium being repaved? Just part of it though, it stopped at Cahokia.
