I am writing in response to an editorial on July 1 that unfairly implied that U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin wasn’t doing everything he could to help Scott Air Force Base. The exact opposite is true. There’s no one more committed to keeping Scott Air Force Base viable for the long-term than Sen. Durbin. He has consistently worked with business and community leaders throughout the region to bring more opportunities to Scott.
The competition for the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency is fierce, and the notion that this will be an easy victory due to clout is silly. While I believe in the strength of St. Clair County’s application, moving 3,000 jobs from Missouri is quite a challenge. I thank Sen. Durbin for his support of St. Clair County’s application to be the new home of the NGA and for this longtime support for the Scott Air Force Base community.
