Park priorities

I read with interest that Fairview Heights is considering spending over $300,000 to purchase land for a new park. This year, as a cost-saving measure, the city decided to mow only half of the grassy area at Pleasant Ridge Park. Besides encouraging pests and rodents, the 3-foot-tall grass prevents residents from fully enjoying the park.

If Fairview Heights cannot afford to fully maintain the existing parks, it would not seem prudent to seek further expansion.
