American poet Henry Wadsworth Longfellow wrote, “Though the mills of God grind slowly; yet they grind exceedingly small.” This saying could be applied to progress in the political arena. Which is as it should be, you can’t get society to change overnight.
Social Security, once labeled a communist idea by some, is now a given. And, recently, others were saying, “Don’t touch my Medicare” and “The Affordable Care Act is still up for grabs.”
And, now things are just moving too fast. Gay marriage and taking down the Confederate Flag being dumped on us. Whoa now, slow down.
When the feminine movement began in England in the late 1700s, the political response was a law that made it illegal for a man to beat his wife with a stick thicker than his thumb.
Like Longfellow said, “It’s a slow grind.”
