Francis W. Reuterman’s recent letter to the editor demonstrates how an individual who wants to prove that racism is alive and well in America can do so regardless of the facts.
In the case of Michael Brown’s death Mr. Reuterman fails to acknowledge that Brown robbed a store and attacked a police officer with the intent of taking that officer’s weapon. That a grand jury and the U.S. Department of Justice exonerated the police officer. Both institutions found that the officer’s action was justified.
Mr. Brown had two options: comply or not comply with the officer’s lawful orders. He chose not to comply and that resulted in his death. It seems Mr. Reuterman missed these facts on his way to declare America a racist country.
As to the minor infractions that Mr. Reuterman cites, a strong-arm robbery, of which Mr. Brown committed is not a minor infraction, attacking a police officer is not a minor infraction. Reuterman attempts, in his letter, to blame the officer for doing his duty and attempts to diminish the offenses committed by Brown. Now Reuterman will write his article absent the facts and gullible Europeans will believe America is a racist country. Mr. Reuterman states that he loves America and that may be true, but if he truly loves this country he should present all the facts and not personal opinions.
