Reaction to shooting follows wrong path

With the latest horrible shooting on a college campus in Roseburg, Ore., the Obama administration is, not surprisingly, pushing for more of the gun-control laws that don’t work.

Not much information has been released about the shooter, 26-year-old Chris Harper Mercer, but there were many clues as to his mental state on the internet. If Obama wants to seriously reduce incidents like this, he should be tracking persons who are capable of these sorts of acts. His administration has shown that they are pretty good at tracking most everyone in the past.

The campus of Umpqua Community College is a weapon-free campus, which did as much good as any other control law on the books. Track the people who should not have firearms — you would think that Obama would catch on to that.

The Obama administration was quick to blame a firearm for the tragedy at a church in Charleston, S.C. until it was learned that a government “mistake” allowed the shooter, Dylann Roof, to purchase and possess a firearm. It seems that his administration makes a lot of mistakes that cost lives. Maybe we’ll get some common sense and efficiency in the White House next time around.
