‘Walk to End Alzheimer’s’ was an inspiring event

I was fortunate enough to attend the “Walk to End Alzheimer’s” that was held at SWIC on Oct. 10. The event was well organized, many sponsors were lined up, lots of food and music. Many people showed up to walk.

If you have never been to an Alzheimer’s walk, during the opening ceremony you are given a pinwheel flower. The colors correspond to your individual involvement. Orange for supporter, yellow for caregiver, blue for those with the disease. Purple for those who lost anyone to Alzheimer’s. Each color is given a moment to suspend their flower. When it was time for purple the numbers were staggering. I have been involved with Alzheimer’s for some time but the display of lives lost to this disease was overwhelming. And this was a slice of the community.

Everyone needs to get involved and do what we can to end Alzheimer’s. In the meantime, please show as much support and compassion for those enduring the battle.
