Optimists’ events support activities for local youths

In the 92 years that the Optimist Club of Belleville has been in existence, there have been many projects and fund-raisers for the club to support and encourage the youth of our community.

We annually are in charge of the Santa Parade, the Santa House and the Christmas Carol sing-along on the Friday night after Thanksgiving. We sponsor poster contests, essay contests, golf matches and we award scholarships to high school seniors.

The rodeo was probably our most unusual (for the Midwest) and indeed successful for 21 seasons. However, the rodeo had to be “retired” several years ago because of the amount of physical activity required to make it happen every year.

So, the men and women of the Belleville Optimist Club are planning another “biggy” — a luncheon-fashion show at the Bellcourt Manor in downtown Belleville, Saturday, March 5, 2016. We have vendors, auction items, door prizes and a lot planned for you.

Please mark your calendar and plant to join us for this event. We look forward to sharing the fun and spring excitement.

Everything earned goes back for the youth of our community.

Jane G. Bonaldi, Belleville Optimist Club vice president
