The clean-up of Dead Creek was part of the Sauget Superfund clean-up. However, since the purchase of Solutia by Eastman Chemical, nothing has been done to drain the water in Dead Creek.
This water drainage problem started in January 2014 when Hank’s Excavating informed Eastman Chemical of the need to replace the pumps at Kinder Street and at Park’s College parking lot. Both pumps were removed and needed to be replaced.
Can you imagine the amount of mosquitoes being generated in this cesspool by the lack of drainage?
Several months ago, I wrote President Obama about the inaction of his EPA office in Chicago, which is responsible for oversight of the clean-up. However, to date, the EPA nor President Obama has responded.
