I was asked what is the purpose of the Veterans Day parade. Many people get Memorial Day and Veterans Day mixed up. Memorial Day is to remember those from the military that have lost their lives. Veterans Day is a day to say thank you to all the men and women that have ever served in our military
I wanted to share this, hopefully to put a smile on your faces, too. I was lining up the last few for the parade, when some of the first people were coming back to the park to get their cars. I had several older generation veterans stop me and tell me how amazed they were at all the support they saw. From how many groups we had (41) to the amount of people that were watching on the streets, then telling me thank you. I wish everyone could see the smiles on their faces and the shine, tear in their eyes. That is what this parade is all about.
I don’t think I could have asked for a better day. You all made this year’s parade absolutely amazing. Thank you for taking a risk with me on the weather, and for helping me give back to my hometown and to say thank you to all the veterans.
