Letters to the Editor

A future in writing?

Sometimes I think that I can write, as in making a worthwhile story to tell a tale. I have had some published in minor places. Poems, short stories but never quite a book.

But I can honestly say that the letter published on Dec. 21 from Joe Fontana of Roxana was the most beautiful letter I have ever seen in this newspaper. It is way beyond my capability and something I can only to aspire to do. If you have not read it, you need to get a copy of this paper or read it online. Mr. Fontana could have a great future with a few breaks and I encourage him to try.

I grew up in the country in St. Clair County and his story was like a flashback to the 1950s. I could hear the sounds, recall the names of the other kids and smell the smells of country life in that day. You can too, maybe if you were not even there. But for me, the memories were so fresh and clean I just thought, “Thank God, I’m a Country Boy.”
