Test scores underscore failure

The recent PARCC test results show the District 189 fails miserably on scores. Only 3.1 percent of District 189 students met or exceeded testing. If we look at the previous testing models of PSAE District 189 didn’t score well there either. After investigating 10 years of scoring District 189 has lost ground. Let us use 11th grade PSAE from 2003 until 2013.

11th grade math — 14.9 percent in 2003; 6.2 percent in 2013

11th reading — 21.5 percent in 2003; 14.9 percent in 2013

11th science — 10.7 percent in 2003; 6.7 percent in 2013

These may be hard figures to digest but, District 189 administrators, faculty and especially board members have failed these children for the last 10 years at a minimum. Many are calling for the state to discredit and close School District 189. It actually sounds quite logical considering their poor performance for decades. But, we in the west end of Fairview Heights that are stuck in this dysfunctional district want out. We will prevail by detaching or the state closing the district which ever comes first will suffice.
