I enjoyed listening to District 3 County Board candidate Phil Chapman at the Madison County Republican meeting on Jan. 25. Mr. Chapman, who has visited with many voters, told the story of one man whose taxes had gone from about $8,000 in 2008 to $15,000 in 2015. His county fees went up, too. The incumbent Bill Meyer (R) has voted for every budget and levy which raised our taxes and for the 2016 fee increase.
I agree with Mr. Chapman who stated, “the current taxes are just too high.” Mr. Chapman wants to cut the county levy 10 percent and to audit the county budgets to find and eliminate “fat.” I was really impressed when Mr. Chapman pledged if he was selected, not to take a Madison County pension.
Listeners erupted into applause six times during Chapman’s speech. I hope District 3 voters choose Mr. Chapman as our next county board member.
