Our readers react to the week’s news:
Glad to have Dallas Cook, Rodger Cook
I am so glad that we have people like Dallas Cook and his father Rodger Cook speaking out and standing up for things to be done right in St. Clair County. Dallas has been pushed for an investigation into why the three less than respectable judges are trying to use some kind of a less than honorable way to be kept as judges. Their attempt may not be illegal and in the eyes of some may not be unethical, but I think that we as voters all know that the whole idea and the way it’s explained by John Baricevic stinks. Remember the old saying, “if it looks like a duck, and walks like a duck, it’s probably a duck. “ Baricevic, Haida, and LeChien should be ashamed of themselves to act like this and should resign.
Why let Kern decide?
Why in the world do we let one stupid man, Mark Kern, dictate and decide on his own how he is going to spend our tax money? Complete mockery of all of us in St. Clair County and he is never held accountable because some people (why is unknown) keep voting for him (I can only assume that they are die hard Democrats who would vote for a monkey if he ran on the ticket). Let’s wake up people before it’s too late or rather should I say before it gets any later and get rid of Mark Kern.
Here’s how to decide
This Sound-Off might be useful to anyone having trouble deciding whom to vote for in the upcoming presidential election. Just type the following URL into you computer's online search box: youtube.com/watch?v=-wMyPnezzMM and then listen to anyone of the campaign speeches by a candidate. You'll come away with a strong conviction of who our next president should be.
Tired of hearing about three judges
I am so sick of hearing about the three judges Baricevic, Haida and LeChien trying to pull a fast one by wanting to let themselves be voted on by the public instead of being retained by their fellow judges. What’s the matter, don’t you guys have any faith in the other judges to want to keep you? Sounds like a guilty conscience to me. And what’s this swapping positions with each other to go on the ballot? I’m no law professor but I can see when someone is trying to bilk the system and this is it. I say throw all three out of the system.
Unacceptable in the real business world
Are you kidding me? That stupid MidAmerica Airport is losing millions of dollars every year and has never made a profit or even broke even for the year and now that useless Chairman, Mark Kern and his handpicked bobble headed yes men on the building commission have given that waste of a space Tim Cantwell, airport director, a $20,000 raise with our hard earned tax money for a job poorly done. What is going on? Am I missing something or would this action be completely unacceptable in the real business world? We have got to get rid of these people at election time.
Unhappy in Englemann Township
Englemann Township residents wake up. Why is the township supervisor earning over $30,000 annually with a township of only 800 residents and larger townships with 2,000 residents are making less than $10,000? Furthermore why isn't the township computer stored at the township office and not at the home of the supervisor?
Progress in Ogles Subdivision
I am so glad that Lisa Zamfir and many others have begun a wonderful Ogles West End Neighborhood Watch program. This group has really been helpful in letting residents know what crimes are being committed in and around the Ogles Subdivisions. Meetings are held regularly to discuss neighbors who are dealing drugs, car break-ins, suspicious activity, ex-cons who have been released from prison and are on parole and their activities and any other crime related information that helps to keep our families and our homes safe. And remember to leave your yard lights on all night to cut down on criminal activity. So many residents are doing this and I’m sure it has helped prevent some crimes. Thanks again Lisa and everyone for participating.
Keep the cats indoors, off my car
I am sick and tired of cats jumping on my new car. They leave muddy paw marks all over the hood, roof and windows and the trunk. I wash it and the next morning they are all over my car again. I have strange cats in my yard all the time. We need an ordinance for keeping cats indoors.
A break on gas prices? Tax it
For the first time since Obama took office, the American people have seen a little extra cash in their pockets due to low gas prices. Now Obama wants to impose a $10 tax on a barrel of oil, which will up the gas prices and take money out of the middle-class’ pockets. Obama is not in favor of the middle class. For you Democratic left-winged liberals who voted for him, I hope you are the ones who are out of work paying the price for this clown.
Surprise, they’re alive
I check the celebrity birthdays every day, usually the first two people surprise me because I thought they were dead.
Out for a buck
I find it humorous, the number of people upset about the Rams leaving. Once Georgia died, Kroenke made no effort to hide his disdain from St. Louis. From day one Kroenke has talked about moving the Rams back to California. He is a lot like Bill Bidwell. No loyalty to the communities in which their team lies. All they worry about is how big a buck they can get off the backs of our people.
Stop the spending
The Democrats are pushing for a bunch of ways to raise revenue with no thought in mind how bad the financial condition is with the State of Illinois. As always, they want to raise taxes, spend more money. What got us here is what the Democrats are talking about now. There is only one way to get this problem fixed — stop the spending.
Chief Clay’s promises
Several years ago Chief Clay promised us community policing that never happened. He also promised a license plate reader that we paid over $20,000 for that would help get dangerous criminals off the street. It sits collecting dust. Then he promised he would retrain all the officers and put AED’s back in squad cars after a gentleman died at Citizens Park. That never happened either. With all these broken promises, shouldn’t Chief Clay consider a career in politics?
A special place
I was looking forward to Super Tuesday so I could vote for Hillary Clinton in the primary. But after today, I’m afraid I can’t, because I understand they have a special place in hell for men who do not vote for other men. Just like Ms. Albright claims, a special place in hell for women who don’t vote for other women. So I guess I will vote for Bernie Sanders if I want to stay out of that special place in hell.
Bernie is a natural choice for kids
I listened to Bernie Sanders, he talks like he wants to give all the kids a free college education. He is buying the kids vote. Naturally the kids will vote for him.
