Philharmonic Chorale performance was memorable

When Teresa Schmidt and her husband Dr. Stephen Schmidt sang “Baby, It’s Cold Outside” at Saturday evening’s Belleville Philharmonic Chorale’s “Love is in the Air” Valentine concert, they weren’t kidding! In fact, if it were any other organization having the program, I probably would have stayed home. But knowing how enjoyable the Philharmonic concerts are, I didn’t want to miss this — and I am so glad I went!

The soloists that musical director/conductor Robert Howard chooses to perform are simply awe-inspiring. I am not going to try to list them all because many are my friends and I don’t want to accidentally miss one, but I have to mention Barb Compton who sang “As Time Goes By” — in memory of her dad (Ted Gundlach, also someone I considered my friend), and the Howards — Robert and his oh-so-talented wife Robin who sang the duet “Our Love is Here to Stay”. (And I should be used to his corny jokes by now!)

Sadly for me, no one volunteered to go out and start my car afterward so it would be warm when I left. Oh, well, that didn’t ruin a wonderful evening!

Try to make the March 6 concert at Lindenwood. Great music scheduled and if you like Irish music you don’t want to miss Celtica.
