The pope and his statement

Bloomberg View columnist Stephen Carter probably had it right when he supposed that Pope Francis was speaking metaphorically when he said, “A person who thinks only about building walls, wherever they may be, and not building bridges, is not Christian.”

The fact that Donald Trump immediately got defensive says more about him than the Pope. Trump was just caught showing his narcissistic side. It’s not always about “The Donald.”

I’m not the Pope’s speech writer but maybe he’d have been better served had he ended his statement with, “… is not very Christian-like.” That might have avoided all the media frenzy that followed after his comments came to light.
