Regarding Gene Robke’s April 5 lesson in voodoo accounting: Like so many previous efforts, his latest merry-go-round rationalizations, twisted use of data, and retro-accounting practices to minimize President Obama’s liability for $9 trillion of national debt illustrates nothing but desperate ideological flimflam. Obama’s responsibility for the national debt began on his first day in office just like any other president. To conveniently blame debt interest on previous administrations changes methodology to concoct political deflection. By such reasoning, Bush is then entitled to blame Clinton’s debt interest, Clinton can blame, etc., etc. ... all the way down the line so that Gene could ultimately fault that dunderhead George Washington for part of today’s mess. Really?
For President Obama, like Bush, and others, the real problem is spending. And while Obama can take credit in some years for reducing the annual spending deficit, reduced or not, annual spending debt is still debt, and therefore it continues to accrue on the total national debt. And after 7 years of President Obama’s guidance it has almost doubled. No question about it.
Obviously the ghosts of the president’s “unpatriotic” and “Bank of China” rhetoric have returned to haunt his supporters. Gene fully realizes his man Obama is guilty nearly twice over Bush and now he’s choking on it. Apparently lacking integrity as most ideologues do, accounting sorcery and blame are his only way out.
