Mr. President, there is an issue in Southern Illinois that requires your immediate attention. As you might be aware The National Geospatial Agency has been studying sites in the St. Louis Metro area to relocate and build a new facility. Director Robert Cardillo of the NGA has announced the recommendation of a site within North St. Louis, the highest murder rate according to the FBI in the nation, a location that could cost taxpayers hundreds of million dollars just for land acquisition and displacing low income residents through imminent domain. Mr. President you and I were elected to serve the citizens and do what is in the best interest of all; that is a charge of office I take very seriously as should Director Cardillo. The North St. Louis location does not achieve what is in the best interest of our nation or fulfill NGA’s site selection needs.
St. Clair County Illinois Chairman Mark Kern, along with the full support of the County Board Members, offered NGA an 182 acre secure site located abutting Scott Air Force Base, MidAmerica joint use airport and Interstate 64, free of charge, originally, then upped the acreage to 382 acres ensuring the NGA ample for future expansion. The St. Louis location for NGA does not make financial sense or offer expansion capabilities.
Mr. President, I would like to ask you to personally intervene on behalf of the citizens of this great nation to ensure the correct location is chosen.
Mike Baker, St. Clair County Board Member, Mascoutah
