Drivers vs. crosswalks

Recently I took a walk on the great new sidewalks in McClintock Avenue. It is such a pleasure to have these. The problem is when I crossed the street, even though I crossed in the marked crosswalks, not one car stopped. I was in the middle of the crosswalk and the cars just went on by. Even at the corner of Wabash where there is a stop sign a guy stopped then proceeded while I was halfway across the street. This seems to be a major problem in Belleville, not just at Lindenwood. I’m not sure if drivers are ignorant of the laws or just don’t care, but it sure is dangerous crossing the streets.
