Avoiding the coal disaster

After reading the recent article about shutting down the coal-burning power plants in Illinois, I started thinking — how can we avoid such a devastating event? We are sitting on a coal supply that could supply them for a very long time. Maybe they should look at installing scrubbers as a long-term investment. Look at the added employment to Illinois workers as miners and plant operators and supporting businesses. The savings of the lost transportation cost of coal from Wyoming is another factor. This would be an investment over time that could help bring some stability to our struggling Illinois economy.
