Our readers react to the week’s news:
E-mails and shootings
Does anybody else think that maybe somebody hacked Hilary’s e-mails and they are the cause for these mass shootings taking place in Europe, around the world and in Florida? Maybe Hillary screwed up.
The new bridge over Illinois 13 at Eckert’s is slow moving. They built the Stan Span faster than the replacement. Any idea when this will be done?
You go, guv
You go Gov. Rauner, you hit it right on the head when these Democrats get you to pass some little bill to keep them looking good so they won’t get any more heat for that 3.9 billion for higher education. He says we need a real budget solution, we don’t need a check written on an overdrawn bank account. This Governor will stand his ground and break these Democrats and Unions. Our credit rating was lowered again. Stop the Democrats.
I think it is horrible that the poor illegal immigrant in Texas, who achieved valedictorian, and received a full Yale scholarship, was forced into the shadows by her parents who brought her to the United States. Or by the politicians who encouraged her parents to bring her into the shadows. Versus being a child prodigy within Mexico, where she could helped her country. I think she could sue her parents and personally those politicians that encouraged a child to become a criminal.
It was nice to see the front page photograph of the young man from the Urbana Twin City bible church doing repair work in East St. Louis.
The wicked witch of the west Hilary is attempting to cast a spell of treachery for we the people. Her history of scandals, and incompetence tells us she is unfit to be president of the United Sates. She is no better than who is in the White House now.
Not much change
Seems to me the problems with the long lines at the TSA is due to the fact that we are still basically working with the same system that was put in 2001 on an emergency basis. Not much has changed.
I got a chuckle out of the headline “Election 2016” the first page of the Insight, “even evangelicals have qualms with Trump but see nowhere else to turn.” Evangelicals have qualms with real Christians who act in a Christian manner.
Go after the others
Reading the ongoing saga with East St. Louis Oliver Hamilton, I would ask the powers to be if they are going to go after the other people involved with the TIF grant and were there 24 people registered to vote out of that Cleveland Avenue residence. Let’s go for the full force and quit hiding and protecting all the rest, and just making one a scapegoat.
Get out of office
After reading the Sunday editorial Rep. Kay’s questions to another legislature about the budget, it’s very clear that Mr. Costello has become a full-fledged politician, his responses to the items identified as not necessary to the schools in the state budget, are obviously that of a polished politician. Mr. Costello, Mr. Jackson, Mr. Hoffman, Mr. Beiser, who all voted for the $7 billion budget overrun, it’s time for you to get out of office.
More to come
The head of the Muslim community got on a microphone during a news conference and said “this could not have been predicted”. He is wrong. There isn’t a good thinking American in the country, that hasn’t predicted this. And there are going to be more. It is coming because Obama and liberals are bringing the people here and letting them do as they wish.
Waste of money
What a waste of hard-working taxpayers’ money that useless, do-nothing East St. Louis Township supervisor and clerk. Long overdue getting rid of the sorry East St. Louis Township. I must go next. The good working black people deserve better, not to be ripped off.
Water for animals
During this hot summer, don’t forget to put water out for the animals.
Coming home to roost
It seems like the city councils in the entire metro-east are going TIF-crazy. It will be interesting to see now that many of the TIF’s are due to expire, exactly how much money was made by the expenditures of huge amounts of money. Few if any of the city councilmen and aldermen have any financial and business background, yet they sign off on these multimillion-dollar TIF’ on a willy-nilly basis. The chickens are coming home to roost, since some of the TIF’s are getting ready to expire.
Not afraid of firearms
Sen. Dick Durbin is worthless in the US Senate. This man’s remarks in the Wednesday paper said that it breaks his heart to have people in neighborhoods to be scared to death of firearms. They are not afraid of firearms, they are afraid of the nut cases you and that president allowed to come into this country.
Feeling sorry for the kids
I’m 81 years old, enjoyed our freedom, able to walk around, see movies where they have armed guards everywhere. Little did I dream that we would be one of those countries where you have to have armed guards in the schools and the churches. I’m glad I’m on the way out and not on the way in. I feel sorry for these kids growing up today, what kind of lives are they going to have?
Hillary isn’t pro-union
As a current member of the AFL CIO I see our leadership again has gone against the wishes of the membership. Just shows how out of touch they have been. But they have always had the support of President Obama, to make us pay dues to join the union to support their political agenda, rather than that of the membership. A multitude of my fellow members will not be voting for Hillary Clinton. She helped put NAFTA through, took our jobs to Mexico, and will do the same thing with the Pacific Trade Agreement. She is not pro union. Just ask anyone working in the coal industry. She will move our jobs over to the Pacific Rim. We need someone who will create jobs and keep them in the United Sates.
Right about gas prices
The gas prices as written by John in New Baden is right. The big oil companies are ripping us off every day and they are making a lot of money. But as long as there are crooked politicians letting it happen, we can’t do anything about it. They are gouging us and they are getting away with it. There is an overabundance of oil and they are acting like the gas prices are low. They should be lower!
Glad to be retired
I’m retired from the city of Belleville. We always had to have our trucks marked. Now employees are all driving around in unmarked brand new vehicles. I’ve complained to the aldermen, but they don’t do anything about it. I think the mayor has his own agenda, he hasn’t done much for the city. Where is the growth in Belleville? We need someone who cares about Belleville, not just amenities for their own personal use. I’m so glad to be retired from the city of Belleville, It has been so corrupt my whole career.
