Obstructionist Republicans

Some people who complain about the lack of jobs and blame President Obama need to look in the mirror for the real culprit. The voters who elected Republicans to Congress are to blame. Obama has had to deal with the most uncooperative Congressional Republicans in history.

In December 2008 and January 2009, Republicans laid out their strategy of an all-out resistance to anything Obama wanted for this country. Mitch McConnell said, “The single most important thing we want to achieve is for President Obama to be a one-term president.” Recently deceased Sen. George Voinovich, of Ohio, said, “If Obama was for it, we had to be against it.”

Legislation favorable to Obama and agreed to by Republicans is as hard to find as the WMD or the Republicans’ alternative to Obamacare.

Democratic minorities filibustered the George W. Bush administration 130 times in 4 years. That’s 32.5 per year. During Obama’s first six years in office, Senate Republican minorities filibustered 505 bills. That’s 84 per year. Democrats and the president have been very negligent by not preaching this Republican obstruction story to the American people.

Regarding homosexuals: According to Archie Bunker and letter writer Jim Bonnevier, if you are not white, straight and Christian, you are not a “Regular American.” Racism, bigotry and homophobia are disgusting. Sadly they are embraced by most of today’s Republicans.
