McKendree University junior Cameron James qualified for the finals of the 60-meter dash at the NCAA Division II Indoor Track and Field Championships on Friday in Birmingham, Ala.
Running in the first of three qualifying heats on Friday afternoon, James, an Edwardsville High School graduate, crossed the finish line in a final time of 6.77 seconds. James was third in the heat, but his time was the fourth-fastest of all the non-automatic qualifiers from the three heats. That effort places James seventh among the eight finalists who will run in Saturday afternoon final. The 6.77 seconds recorded by James was just a few-hundredths of a second off his NCAA qualifying time of 6.73 seconds.
