McKendree’s Pendegraft and Germagliotti to fish in meet

McKendree University bass fishing team members Dustin Pendegraft (Lebanon) and Phillip Germagliotti (Highland) are currently practicing in the first of only two practice days allowed on Lake Murray, South Carolina for the 2015 FLW Collegiate National Championship that will be held Thursday through Saturday.

The McKendree duo is one of only 50 teams from across the United States to qualify for this event. Pendegraft and Germagliotti qualified for the National Championship by first placing 9th in the Table Rock qualifier in the spring of 2014 during McKendree’s inaugural season as a program. They advanced to the regional finals on Kentucky Lake in September of 2014 and fished against the top 45 teams that advanced from the three central division qualifiying events. They were in the lead at the regional finals after day one and ended up taking third place after day two, finishing as one of the top ten teams at the regional final to earn a berth to the 2015 National Championship.

“Qualifying for the FLW Collegiate National Championship is a tremendous accomplishment for our program,” said Bearcats coach Jon Rinderer. “Dustin and Phillip are both outstanding anglers, and both worked very hard to achieve this goal. They are the only team from the entire state of Illinois to reach the National Championship tourney, and I am extremely proud of their success.”

Hosted by Capital City/Lake Murray Country, the tournament runs from Thursday through Saturday out of Dreher Shoals Dam and pits the top 10 squads from each of the five college conferences against each other. Thursday and Friday weigh-ins are set for 5 p.m. ET at Carolina Stadium, home of the University of South Carolina Gamecocks baseball team, with the final weigh-in taking place there at 4 p.m. ET Saturday.

McKendree’s Jodi Gawlik is third-team All-American

For the second consecutive year, McKendree University’s Jodi Gawlik has earned third-team All-America honors from the National Tenpin Coaches Association (NTCA).

Gawlik earned the honor prior to the start of the NCAA Women’s Bowling Championships, which are being staged in St. Louis. Gawlik also received third-team All-America mention a year ago as a junior.

“We are so proud of Jodi for her open mind to learn new things this year,” said McKendree women’s bowling coach Shannon O’Keefe. “She has embraced her senior year and has stepped up to lead this team to a sectional title in our quest to win an (xBowling) Intercollegiate Team Championship next week. She is the ideal student-athlete and we will truly miss her next year.”

For the season, Gawlik put up some solid numbers in leading the McKendree bowling program in 2014-15. Gawlik posted a 208.1 average in team games, which is 10th nationally. She topped the 200 mark a whopping 68 percent of the time, which is second overall among all bowlers in NCAA competition this season. Her Baker game average to date is 20.51, which is a per-frame average. That number sits 14th in the national statistical rankings.

The McKendree University women’s bowling program will be making its 11th consecutive appearance at the xBowling Intercollegiate Team Championships, which will be held Wednesday through Saturday at Northrock Lanes in Wichita, Kan.
